indehiscent

Sarcobasis, sr-kob′a-sis, n. a fruit consisting of many dry indehiscent cells.

Indehiscent fruits are either dry, as the nut, or fleshy, as the cherry and apple.

The pepo, another indehiscent syncarpous fruit, is illustrated by the fruit of the gourd, melon (fig. 31) and other Cucurbitaceae.

The pod is compressed, semicircular in form, indehiscent, and toothed along the lower edge.

Uva, ū′va, n. a name for such succulent indehiscent fruits as have a central placenta.
